review 1: Although best known for his science fiction, Silverberg proves himself equally adept at the hard-boiled crime genre with this novel written 50 years ago and published here for the first time in book form. It's a straight-ahead, no-nonsense page-turner involving an undercover cop and a forgery ring. If, like me, you love American pulp fiction of this vintage, you won't be disappointed. Also included are a couple of the author's nifty short stories of similar style.
review 2: Another great novel from Hard Case Crime, this one a "lost" crime novel from Robert Silverberg's early days as a pulp-fiction writer. Also includes an afterword by Silverberg about the novel, as well as two of his short stories, also from the magazines of the 1950's. Double-crossing gangster... mores and government agents, counterfeit money schemes, gun battles, and of course a femme fatale - it's all here, in all of its pulpy glory. less
