review 1: I read this without having read the first book. I thought it was something other than the fantasy that it is. That said, it's best to read these in order. It's a complex world and there is much work to get one's footing. It's fantasy, but has some nice, original ideas in it and was worth the time I took to finish it. There are some passages that I could do without. The one huge continuity flaw I found was in such a passage...I won't describe it in detail, but it's the kind of action that feels like filler and really does not tell us anything...and very common to fantasy writing. If it were a movie, they'd have fun filming it but it would probably end up on the cutting room floor.
review 2: This second story starts right where the last left off with all of the f
... moreirst book's adventure, intrigue, sorcery and emotion. And that continues all the way to its blockbuster finale. These books have a classic feel, like I'm reading Treasure Island all over again.Everyone raves about Patrick Rothfuss and deservedly so. After reading his first book I thought seriously about reading the next right away but changed my mind.On the other hand, these stories I am DEVOURING. I cannot wait to find out what happens next! less

Loved it! Some bits drag on a little, but if you read the first one the second does not disappoint.
