review 1: Robin Hobb became one of my favourite fantasy authors after reading this trilogy. I won't bore you all with the plot but I will say that the characters are complex and fully formed, she describes nature with a poets tongue and she writes honestly. Many authors in fantasy write about what they don't understand as most fantasy doesn't exist, Hobb has found a way to make myth feel so relatable. A must read for fantasy fans.
review 2: Few books get a full rating in my world but this one has a unique place in my life, along with its trilogy brothers. They belong on a shelf that can't be defined by 'I've read it' or 'I want to read it' it has to be on the shelf that I turn to after a bad day, the shelf that stores my memories, the books that are cared for but end up ... morebattered because they are read so much. Fitz is a character I would dearly love to know in real life, if only to give him a hug and promise him there is always another side. Hobb's writing is engaging and entrancing. Few details are ever left out and you are right there with the characters, all the way through. less
