review 1: A delightful series with a thoroughly flawed protagonist. His weaknesses and constant stumbling are what really draw me in as a reader. While Fitz matures and progresses as a character, his circumstances are oftentimes unforgiving and the end result becomes entirely unpredictable. Hobb's style is engaging, her characters are believable, and her story is effective. While there are some plot elements that I feel could have been better developed (the origins of dragons is a bit perplexing), I found this book very enjoyable.
review 2: Brilliant book, the author really extracts what she can from the characters. You're left with a sense of loss at the end of most chapters. The lonesomeness that Burrich and Fitz go through, was for me, really saddening.Both have eithe... morer lost everything they had or, are left to relish what they could have had. The connection one ties with the characters is immense. Fantastic read, already started the second one. less
