review 1: "When Love Blooms" is the perfect title for this romantic story of loss, new discoveries and the healing power of love. Gavin Blake and Emily Harris meet when she accepts the position of governess and teacher for his wife's two young daughters. Emily appears to be very much a refined city lady, and Gavin doubts that Emily will adapt to the rugged lifestyle of his family's mountain ranch. Emily is not quite sure of what to make of Gavin, and she senses his disapproval. Gavin married his wife Dru because she was the widow of his best friend, and he feels responsible for the care of Dru and her children. Dru and Gavin are married, but they are just good friends, not truly husband and wife. They are not lovers. Dru is very ill, dying of cancer, and she sees in Emily someone wh... moreo will love her children. While Gavin at first disapproves of Emily, he is also quite attracted to her, and his quilt over this attraction eats away at him. The more time that Emily spends with the family, the more she realizes that Gavin is a good man of deep feeling. Though all of the characters undergo difficult personal challenges, they also experience great personal growth. They bloom as people, just as "love blooms". A lovely, touching romantic read!
review 2: another book about the misunderstanding that can occur when you don't communicate with words. Emily Harris didn't know that she would be making Idaho her permanent home when she went form Washington to help her sister recover from an illness. She found the need to pull her own weight and applied for a governess for two young girls. She didn't know when she was hired that she would fall in love with a married man and his adopted daughters or with the land that he called home. Drucilla had cancer and wanted to find a woman for which to entrust her two girls to. She had Gavin Blake her husband in name only that married her after her own husbands death and her diagnosis of cancer so that her children would not be orphaned, but she wanted more for Gavin...she wanted him to have a love like hers and her late husband Charles had...she thought Emily Harris filled the role. The two fought the attraction believing that they were wrong when Gavin was married, but even after Dru's death the two fought it until another came into the picture. Emily accepted Patrick's proposal, he was rich, kind and available, but in the end she called it off because it was wrong when she married one and loved another. Gavin didn't know of her love for him nor did she know of his for her and the misunderstanding went unspoken...actions speaking louder than words. In the end Gavin went after her and brought her back to the ranch that he thought she would never even survive the first month at. less
