Where the Heart Lives
review 1: This is the last book in the "Where the Heart Lives" series and I think it was the best. I truly enjoyed the second-chance-at-romance plot. Diana and Tyson got married when she was only 18 and due to his own selfishness and rebellion towards his father, Tyson left her and traveled the world. Diana decides to move on once she learns that Tyson was presumed dead while fighting in Cuba. The author intersperses flashbacks of the Diana and Tyson in the past with the Diana and Tyson in the present (1900). I liked this technique because it really makes you understand the characters better. I could see why Diana was not willing to give Tyson another chance because of how deeply she was hurt/betrayed by Tyson. Also, I could see how Tyson was a man who married Diana as an act of reb... moreellion and how his choices led him to a downward spiral. The old Tyson was really reprehensible but the new Tyson was so wise, patient, and willing to follow God's will even if it meant letting Diana go. I do have to say that I felt Tyson should have groveled a bit for Diana's forgiveness since he did not keep his marital vows (which comes back to re-visit him). Fortunately, that is the difference between me and God. Tyson knew God forgave him for his past and he was clean in God's eyes. Diana was finally able to see that Tyson really did change and she was able to let go of her fear of abandonment and feeling unwanted. Both Diana and Tyson understood what it meant to be God's beloved. There were other subplots (street urchin found, love between older couple, dastardly villain) which did not detract from the story. This book could be read as a stand alone but it was nice to read the first two to get a complete picture of all 3 siblings. I would have liked a longer epilogue with a more in-depth reunion between the siblings but this was still a great read!
review 2: I found the story very interesting and enjoyed reading how both Diana and Tyson had done a lot of growing up proving that mature love can be so powerful. What seemed like a selfish act on Tyson's part to have Diana act as a loving wife was really his way of wanting her to see how much he had changed. It is a sad fact but sometimes we need to go through some really hard times to finally see that God has been calling us to him. I can relate to this story since I myself went through a lot of pain when I was younger and it took God's help for me to be able to forget and get on with my life. If only we would listen sooner we could save ourselves a lot of heartache. I enjoyed this book so much that I would love to read the other two books in the series. less
