review 1: while it took me a long while to warm up to this at first very unlikable, sarcastic and entitled narrator, eventually i did (subject to ostracism upon being turned into a mech after a car accident, she predictably becomes more likable and interesting). much in this novel (the first of a YA trilogy) works through problems related to cyborgs and humanness -- there is also a good deal that concerns disability and objecthood, as well as right to die and self-harm. looking forward to reading the next two in the series.

I prefer books with characters (or, even just one) that I can empathize with, but this book is filled with self-absorbed, entitled, snarky people that it took what I had to continue to the end. There is no desire for me to find out what happens to anyone in the remainder of the trilogy. less
