Sandy Reid Mysteries
review 1: Nothing like a good soft-boiled murder mystery with a few twists and turns, a bit of romance, and a fairly easy whodunit for Thanksgiving reading. I really like the character of Sandy Reid and although her brother is pretty much an idiot, it was a fun read. This genre is not meant to overwhelm with legalese or overly deep plots and that is just fine. Sometimes you really want to read a book just for fun and Sandy Reid is certainly a good lead character to go with. This book vaguely reminds me of Sue Grafton's alphabet series. Good pacing, strong female lead and murder without gory details. I will certainly check out some other books in this series. Overall a solid book in the women sleuths genre.
review 2: 4.0 out of 5 stars Sandy Reid is a Great Crime In
... morevestigator. She's a Smart Ass too., October 17, 2014Ummm. Interesting. I saw the three, two and one star reviews and I wonder exactly what these people were expecting. All books are not written with the skill of a Time to Kill or Pride and Prejudice, but they are good nonetheless. Although I agree there is a drop in quality with the explosion of a lot of the mindless series, I thought One Deadly Sister by Rod Hoisington had everything one could ask for in his unique character, Sandy Reid.In Book 1, Sandy has boogied to Florida from her job as an investigator for a law firm to come to the aid of her brother, Ray. Reluctantly, I might add. Meeting with Ray, his lawyer and the cute Detective Sargeant Chip Goddard, she goes about taking over the entire function of solving the murder of a local Senator. A crime for which her brother has been charged. The local "district attorney" is not on her side. There are a lot of people not on her side and she has the cruises and crushed car to prove it. Ray can do nothing. His bail is set so high he can't get out.Sandy is impulsive, sassy and fearless. She doesn't take any crap from anybody. Male or female. Will she stay long enough to help solve the crime with her boss giving her deadlines one after another? And how will she go about it? Hoisington did an great job to me of answering that question. less
