review 1: Pros: This book is the sequel to another book that I read in 7th grade Cryptid Hunters. This book i think did a great job of picking up where it left off at the end of the first book something that most sequels don't accomplish. The book does offer a sense of unpredictability that keeps you turning pages(it had a series of conflicts). The book was enjoyable but it wasn't mind blowing. The plot was ok it had all the elements needed that made the book respectable. The plot didn't move to quickly or too slowly it had the right pace going which made the book more enjoyable. Cons: This book has 2 main characters yet the entire story is told from the perspective of a third person (kind of) limited narrator. I would have personally enjoyed the book a lot more if the author would ... morehave took turns (maybe chapter by chapter) switching off between Marty and Grace being the Narrators. The third person viewpoint just gets dull. I think the author used to many characters throughout the whole book(He has like 20 different characters, thats a lot for such a short book). The problem is a lot of these characters are really static and they just pop in for one part of the book never to be seen again. I guess he is planning a third book where they actually have significance. Another problem i have with this book is that the author seems to only be using it to get a third book done even the ending to this was left us on a cliff (the ending) . I think it would've been a lot better if he just wrote it without the third book in mind. I also would have liked for the author to switch the settings up a little bit. Maybe they could've gotten off the boat? I would've loved to him develop the Marty a lot more throughout the book but he seems to be moving towards having Grace as more of the main character (the whole plot was written with her at the center).Overall I think the book was an acceptable sequel to what was a great first book (From what I remember back in 7th).I think the author could've also taken more of a new spin with this book instead of just putting the last book in a whole new setting (the last book was on an island this one was on a boat, otherwise almost exactly the same). The ending was the only difference pretty much. I didn't really like this book as much as the first. But if i'm grading it without the first one in mind i would give it a 3/5.
review 2: In this exciting sequel, Marty O'Hara and Grace Wolfe embark on a ship with their friend Luther and Grace's Cryptid hunting father, Travis Wolfe. Their goal: capturing a live giant squid and bringing it back to the island of Cryptos. If this journey couldn't be any more difficult, two dinosaur eggs are about to hatch and an old arch enemy will do anything to stop them. This book was brilliantly written, although it was not nearly as good as the first. There is so much realism to this story, even with legendary creatures! It has a great Sci-fi flair and humor as well. I recommend reading the first book before this one. less
