review 1: I so related to this book, simply because I grew up in the 50's, did the air raid drills, watched the horror movies and could relate to the time.Set in the 50's, a bunch of friends are excited that Don Siegel is filming "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" in their little California town. There is an FBI agent investigating movie people, and he also has a physicist on his list to be investigated, so the boys discover the complexities of loyalty, patriotism, paranoia and real fear as they pursue their interest in movies, and try to discover what sort of spy Richard Feynman might be, and discover a lot of interesting people along the way, including Feynman's friend Jiryar Zorthian. Ronald Kidd attempts to tie a lot of threads together in a plot that is as complicated as the ti... moremes. I would classify this as an historical novel, because all of the real characters did face blacklisting or charges of un-American activities, and ordinary people like the fictional characters were also caught up in these events. As an introduction to America in the 1950's, it may help readers understand their grand-parents childhood.
review 2: 1st Quarter BookAs far as I had read, I can say this book is just "OK". This book talks about 4 kids which live in a small town called "Sierra Madre". They all really enjoy watching horror movies. So they get so Excited when they heared the news about that there where going to film a movie in Sierra Madre, a HORROR movie. This movie was called "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and it was about aliens that grow from big pods. They met a member of the cast called Laura. They started going everyday to see the filming but then they started noticing something strange things going on there..... All I can say is that the boom is not bad at all but it wasn´t what I expected. less
