review 1: I read that this was a book for fans of Downton Abbey. Wanted to read it straight away! I can surely see the comparison in many regards, however there is a bit of a Jane Eyre element here as well. There are many contrasts within the book, the aristocracy and the servants and their place in society in Ireland and England, the lack of such a class distinction in Australia. I actually imagined some if the Downton actors playing some of the characters (it would have to be a mini series I think). I loved the pacing of the story. Short sections and changes in time and location meant I wanted to just keep reading. Interesting, some of the dramatic developments in the story are skipped over and recounted later, and this was really clever as it kept the story on t... morerack.
review 2: By no means is this a 'feel good' read. I thought it was very drawn out. The story spans over thirty years and I liked the part that was set in Australia. However, an event happens here which I honestly thought was going to have some 'comeback' in the story, which it didn't so was kind of pointless. You'll see what I mean when you read it! Anyway, not the worst and in fairness had the potential for a more intriguing read but it just didn't really grab me. less

This was very good. Kept me guessing until, the end. Can't wait for the sequel.
