review 1: A good idea, poorly executed. This book should have been labeled "Young Adult". The main characters are barely 17 years old, and the character development is simplistic enough to appeal to that age group. The frequent point of view (POV) shifts really kills it. The first few sections are written from the POV of disposable characters. They each die at the end of a page or two. This makes it very difficult to develop any emotional sympathy for the characters. And throughout the book, the author changes POV too frequently, often in the middle of a scene or confrontation. This totally destroys the tension.
review 2: Lilly really is a horrible monster, though you can't help feeling sorry for her, she was raised to be that way. Cruelty, and brutality are all she's ev
... moreer known. Almost all she's ever known. But her human side has been touched by kindness a couple of times, and that humanity finally calls out to her, and she must struggle fiercely to claim it, and find a way to climb out of the darkness. Uldolf finds her in the forest, and takes her home to be nursed to health by his family, none of them realizing that the vulnerable young girl is actually a werewolf. Uldolf has his own ghosts that haunt him, a gruesome experience that he can't bear to remember, that cost him his family and an arm, so both he and Lilly have deep wounds that must be faced before healing can finally truly take place. less
