review 1: Of course I am biased because I adore all of Sally's books, but this is definately one of my favorites. I think, of all her heroes and heroines, Jane and Motton have the most explosive chemistry. Jane is a strong character with a mind of her own. She makes me turn every page. Unlike some characters I read, I support and agree with every decision she makes, which then has me willing to follow her every move. And Motton, of course, is as fascinating a leading man as you can get. There is never a dull chapter in this book. I wish she would give them more adventures! Sally is writing some of the best Regency Romance in the business at the moment!
review 2: One thing Ms. Mackenzie says about her books is that they can be read out of order (seeing as she writes them
... moreout of order). I am a testament to that. I started with The Naked Gentleman, then The Naked Baron, followed by Marquis, Earl, Laird -- and finally this book, The Naked Viscount. I still haven't read the first (Duke) but, seeing as it recently came back into print, I now have it on my shelf (yay!) and it is on my TBR list. But back to the book I was talking about.Heretofore, my favorite book of the series (and the one I was sure to bring with me when I moved north) was The Naked Marquis. The heroine in this book is both brown-haired and bespectacled.... so I wonder where my affinity for it came from :)I have to say (forgive the rambling) that I now have a new favorite. Yessirree. The Naked Viscount is a terrific book for three very important reasons:1) This book contained one romance. You're probably scratching your head and wondering why I would say something like this, but in Sally Mackenzie's books, I've become used to seeing side romances from secondary characters. This isn't a bad thing -- far from it! -- but it means that the ratio of book length : primary romance is that much greater, and therefore that much more satisfying. In truth, I was mystified by Motton and Jane and I'm glad they were selfish and stole the spotlight for this book. Secondary romances weren't needed, although I found that in some of her other books, particularly in The Naked Baron, I enjoyed the happily ever afters included for the secondary characters. But back to my review with...2) Motton is a to-die-for hero. Honestly. He has replaced all other regency heroes in my mind. He's the perfect combination of scarred, rakish, and protective. Every encounter with the heroine made me read on. I put the book down only reluctantly. And that was partly due to:3) I laughed from beginning to end. This lighthearted romance was just what I needed to brighten my day -- and I highly suggest you try it out if you haven't already. I loved the snappy dialogue and the situations the pair managed to get themselves into. Well, to start, they were running all over London trying to find the hollowed-out penises of a bunch of statues because of a paper hidden inside each one. Hilarious!Let me just say that this is a MUST-READ book. I don't think I'd even give up my copy for long enough to lend to my mom. Sorry, Mom. I'll buy you a copy. It's just that good. less
