review 1: A fine, clear, straightforward, and convincing argument for the virtues of telling the truth, even when it feels difficult or may be hurtful. However, many of the examples had to do with telling the truth about "my opinion," which, I think, should have been distinguished from telling the truth in other circumstances. My opinion, after all, can change. My opinion, after all, is not always that important. Would have been helpful to point out that telling the truth about my opinion is not the same thing as telling the Capital-T Truth.
review 2: Harris is a brilliant, engaging and fantastically persuasive speaker. When he tries to clarify his thoughts on paper he sometimes falls down. Here it isn’t clear exactly what he is arguing for. He waffles between abso... morelute disapproval of lying, and admitting that there are many exceptions to the rule that lying is bad. He makes some interesting arguments that lying is worse than we think it is, but, given that I can’t nail down his conclusion, I can’t tell if he is successful in arguing for it or not. less
