review 1: This book took me a bit longer to read than the last. It was more intense than the others. Full of sacrifice, and grief to mix with the happiness, once Brett, Freddy and Anne finally let themselves be happy. I loved the addition of the letters that Bertie and Brett wrote to Anne during the war. It gave dimension to Anne's history with him as well as his with Brett. And we finally learn at least one reason why the Dowager Duchess is such a bitch. I do hope we don't see her again. Maybe she will find happiness herself, far away from our heroes.
review 2: Through all the Brothers in Arms series, the Duke of Ashland--Freddie to his friends--has romped and cajoled, and often been present when truly needed. He has been a supportive friend that has seen to the ... morewelfare of all these men and their wives, and who is seeking his own long-term relationship. Freddie is a wonderful character as are all the personalities who flow through this story. As in all this series, this story is about forgiving oneself, for accepting oneself and allowing the true regard of genuine loving to bring healing and restoration. A very, very good book. less
