review 1: Interesting plot! This book was entertaining to the end. Though I will admit Jai was annoying with his delay in catching up with his feelings for Ari. I still found Charlie annoying as hell but we have a new player on the board and her name is Fallon. I like her. She's sassy and confident and perky and very accepting and understanding and PERFECT FOR CHARLIE!! But because Charlie is still hung up on Ari he's blind to that realization. But I know those two are are going to be a thing.Ari also annoyed me when she was all "I'm so over Jai and I'm not going to pine after him anymore!" and when that happened the first couple times I'm like YES you make him work for it girl! But no...She sees him and melts into a pathetic puddle of spinelessness! UGH. Next ... morebook!
review 2: I think one of the things Samantha Young does best is her characters. Their internal conflicts and interactions are varied and believable and this book does a great job with that. While I am enjoying the plot, it is the characters that makes me love this book.I love that the heroine is one of the only characters I have ever seen in the YA paranormal romance genre that looks at the guys she's been stressing over and realizes that she doesn't want to spend her life fighting for people who aren't willing to fight for her. Sure, she has some setbacks in that decision (which is understandable, since it's sometimes hard to get your heart to catch up with your head), but she makes a conscious decision to stop wasting her time with people who aren't willing to fight for her or put her first in their relationship (like does for them). It is refreshing to read and provided a whole different level of conflict within the story. Perhaps it's just that I really identify with the heroine, but I thought it was brilliantly done.While the plot tends to have rather easily overcome conflicts, she amps it up by having complex relationships and by having a lot of plot lines all twisting together. It seems like every time there is any sort of real serious problem, someone is able to swoop in and fix the whole thing rather easily, but that's to be expected when you have characters that are uber-powerful. But the author keeps it from being bland by adding those other aspects.There are characters whose motives we question, others who are struggling with issues, and trust issues all over the place. I am really enjoying this series. less
