review 1: I had very much enjoyed the first four books in the series, but I couldn't say much about this particular installment. I had been waiting for a long time for a book on Cole Walker, the young brother of Jo (from book #2), and best friend of Hannah (from book #4). While Cole had lived up to my expectation of him, the book had generally failed to interest me.The biggest failure of this book - definitely the heroine. Shannon McLeod, a young woman who had some bad luck and taste in guys, escaped her hometown of and chose to start a new life in Edinburg. At her new job as a receptionist at a tattoo parlor, she met Cole and realized that they had already met once many years before when they were mere teenagers. The attraction was instant, but due to her past, she had decided ... moreto keep her distance from Cole.As a heroine, Shannon was weak and her backstory could have been compelling but it wasn't. While I tried to feel sympathy for her, it was hard for me to do so since I couldn't reconcile her past to her behavior. She was somewhat whiny and judgemental. Her stupid thinking and behavior was part of the reason why she suffered and wallowed in her unhappiness and disastrous familial situation. Since this was a contemporary romance novel, the elements of romance was expected. However, the chemistry between Shannon and Cole started off strong, but as their interactions progressed, the chemistry started to lose steam and the spark was hardly there. Their union seemed a bit hasty and less believable as compared to the couples in previous books of the series. As their relationship strengthened, but eventually a stupid comment/suggestion that Shannon made caused Cole to blow a gasket and froze out their relationship. At that point, Shannon started to panic and had to grovel for his forgiveness. The whole incident felt contrived and uncharacteristic of Cole. His initial reaction was understandable, but the subsequent cold-shoulder was a bit over the top.So overall, this was my least favourite book in the serious, largely because the main character was not very likable and romance did not evoke much of any interest.2 stars only.
review 2: Echoes Of Scotland Street I received a print copy and a digital copy from Netgalley and NAL. I really wish this book had been written from Cole's point of view however it doesn't lessen the great story that it turns out to be, and who doesn't like men and tattoos these days? I think I'm a sucker for those reunion type stories because every time I read a good one it quickly becomes a favorite. I like the cuteness of seeing Cole and Shannon together when they were young but its the fact that they get to grow up that really does it for me. I enjoyed their interaction and I loved how they brought the best out in eachother. less
