review 1: Ever heard of the Cascadia Subduction Zone? It's a huge fault line running from Northern California to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. In geologic time, it's past due to move. When it does, the damage to the Pacific Northwest -- she writes specifically about Seattle and Portland -- will be historic and unlike anything we've ever faced as a country. An amazing look at a recently (1980s) found fault that many residents in the Pacific Northwest still know very little about. Read up on it and prepare (i.e., bolting your house, food and water stores, transistor radio, etc.) as best you can. Just hope you're not enjoying the beach when it happens.

... moreorthwest quakes (and to some extent, earthquakes in general). Somewhat Seattle-centric, as might be expected with a Seattle-based author, plus I think a lot of the actual science is centered in Seattle. If you live anywhere in the region, particularly in the Puget Sound area, absolutely worth reading. less
