review 1: One of the best historic novel from Sandilyan. I have red this book almost 5 times, recently I have red this novel a week back. The way he explain the character, war sequence and love are best. We can easily imagine and picturise the exact story...Even the first page itself starts with siledai (Kanji irukka Kalingam kulaindha)...awesome and hats off to Mr. Sandilyan (Legend of Tamil historic novel)After I completed this book, I referred the book called Chozhargal by KA Nilakanta Sastri (Vol 1&2) and whatever is given in the novel is almost matching with the referred period.I will never forget the characters who comes in this novel - Illayapallavan, Manjalazhagi, Kanchanadevi, Ahutha, Amir and Paalikullan If anyone wanna start tamil historical novel then start with this...f... moreirst you should have a patience to read atleast 30 to 50 pages, if it is done then definitely you will not drop this book..Happy reading...
review 2: This is a historical novel authored by the famous Tamil writer Sri. Sandilyan. The novel is based on the victory of Tamil prince Anabhaya kulothungan of Chola dynasty about 1100 AD, over the Sri Vijaya empire, now Malasia/singapore. The main player in this novel Ilayapallavan or Karunakara Pallavan, who was a prince of the defunct Pallava empire. He acts as an aide and chieftain of Anabhaya in conquering the island nations by building strong Naval forces. After Anabhaya becomes Chola emporer, Karunakaran is made a King with the name Karunakara Thondaiman, who in the aftermath, is to win the war against Kalinga on behalf of Kulothunga chola and his victory is praised in the famous tamil epic Kalingaththup parani. The wa y the author takes the story line makes us feel that we are actually passing through the historic period and the way he describes the on-sea invasions are astonishing. A very good-read. less
