review 1: I don't usually read the mystery detective best seller-type of books, but I bought this at a library book sale because my friend recommended Sandra Brown. I really enjoyed it because it grabs your attention immediate and doesn't let go. It has lots of psychological and physical action. Derek Mitchell is a young, good-looking, successful lawyer who gets mixed up with the very rich Wheeler family. One of the older members was shot in an elevator riding with his mistress, Julie. She and Derek become involved and set out to prove who the murderer is. A younger member of the Wheeler family is a pure evil, very smart sociopath who sends Julie, Derek and the police on a wild goose chase. It's not a great book and has several stereotyped characters, but it was fun to ... moreread.
review 2: This is how you do romantic suspense! There was much more suspense than romance and the romance didn't follow the stupid formula. I mostly like Sandra Brown's books, but some grab me more than others. This one really grabbed me. It was a good mystery with twists right up until the very end. There was one thing about it I didn't like. SMALL SPOILER: I didn't like that the dog was murdered, especially since I didn't see it coming. This has nothing to do with the story, but it bothered me, and I only mention it because of a quote in the book. One of the characters in the books says that her parents taught her to respect books and to always use a bookmark instead of tenting the book to keep from breaking the spine. Anyone who has ever borrowed a book from me knows I keep my books in pristine condition. I never crack the spines and they often don't even look read. The copy of this book I had came from a used book sale and it was not treated with the respect it deserved. The spine was severely cracked and it really bugged me while I was reading it! less

Kept my attention. Fairly predictable, only a slight surprise at the end.
