review 1: Well my stars are 84.5 w/ 29 stories for an avg. of 2.9 and that seems right for the stars I was planning. This is certainly not the best collection of short stories, but as a major short story fan I still found it enjoyable1 Diamond Drop by Roxanne St. Claire- 5 starsThis was a super cool read that is a foot/shoe fetishists delight. A cool little diamond heist caper. Never heard of St. Claire but will likely be checking her out in the future!2 Cold Moonlight by Carla Neggers- a generous 2 stars-I have enjoyed the few of Negger's books/short stories that I have encountered...this was not one of them! If this had been the first I would likely not read "Breakwater" which is on my shelf at home.3 poison by Beverly Barton- a generous 2 stars-By the forward I assume this is the... more late Mrs. Barton, so I mean no disrespect....but this was as unenjoyable short story as I hope to encounter in this collection.4 Speechless by Robert Browne- a solid 4 starsI am not familiar with Browne, but loved the narrative way this story unfolded. A jealous woman, an overbearing mother, a boyfriend with bad judgement...chaos ensues!5 Lockdown by Andrea kane- 3.5 starsA very cool story about a volitile ex, who is not happy that his ex is getting married....a wedding holdup, an abduction and an ex fbi negotiator on her honeymoon make for a suspenseful read.6 Spiders Tango by William Simon- 3 starsNot bad, not bad at all. A kidnapping with horrific ramifications, a computer genius, international espionage, terrorists, and a resiliant tracking team, make for a fun story.7 Night Heat by Laura Griffin 2.5 starsA spin on rescuing a lady who has been abducted by terrorists and the rescue team. Not great, not bad.8 B.A.D. Mission by Sherriyn Kenyon- 2.5 starsA decent little story ripe with subterfuge and espionage, terrorist and counter terrorists.9 Deadly Fixation by Dianna Love- 1.5 starsNot my cup of tea, I like Fantasy mostly in the D&D model, and care little for sci-fi..this missed on both counts and for me is largely unenjoyable...more of a complain on the story than the writing...fans of this genre may enjoy more than I!10 Hot Note by Patricia Rosemoor- 2 stars I guessNot a big fan of paranormal, and never really connected with this one.11 Last Shot by Jon Land & Jeff Ayers- 3 stars This was an enjoyable read after a bit of a let down stretch by my preferences. Wouldn't you like to have a machine that granted you mulligans? and more!12 Grave Danger by Heather Graham- 2.5 starsI have never read a full length Graham book, although I have tried but never got into one before placing it back on the shelf. I have however read a few Short stories and novellettes, and they have been mostly enjoyable...this one not quite as much although I found it still very readable....just not a major paranormal fan I guess. The writing flowed nicely in spite of myself.13 Without Mercy by Mariah Stewart- 3.5 starsA decent little story, about what may or may not be a discovery of a long abducted girl.14 Even Steven by D.P. Lyle- 3 starsAnother tale of vigilante justice...how far would you go in the name of avenging a loved one???15 Dying to Score by Cindy Gerard- 2 starsI couln't seem to get into this one....a black-ops story...never generates the steam or suspense I was hoping for.16 The Number of Man by J.T. Ellison- 3.5 starsThis collection just wouldn't be complete without a stalker story would it?17 Hard Drive by Bill Floyd- 2 starsThis just did not connect with me at all18 After Hours by William Bernhardt- 1.5 starsJust barely tolerable...for some people there may not be taboos...but as for me...Oh well. I have read several books by bernhardt...i am glad they were prior tp this, so I won't be completely turned of in the future.19 Blood In, Blood Out by Brenda Novak- 2.5 starsI am not familar w/ Novak at all, and was not wowwed enough to try more off of this attempt. The plot developed a little slowly and intermittently for a short story.20 Wed to Death by Vicki Hinze- 3 starsThe premise was cool but the fleshing out of it was alittle vague and to slow to develop. A few to many holes left me wanting more...perhaps another 10-20 pages could still qualify as a short story and leave room for some of those holes to be filled. Not bad 21 The Honeymoon by Julie Kenner- 4 starsA very fun read...on your honeymoon when a psycho stalker is on their tail....things spiral, and looks are decieving....a couple of nice devious twists.22 Execution Dock by James Mcomber- 2 starsstarted decent, but never drew me in to where I thought or hoped it might go.23 In Atlantis by Alexandra Sokoloff- 3 starsA decent little read. Nice to have a little heist thrown in.24 Break Even by Pamela Callow- 4 starsThis one was very enjoyable for me. I devious little twist, vigilante justice and revenge...not that I condone this! 25 Dirty Down low by Debra Webb- 4 starsThis one was very enjoyable, and likely my 2nd favorite so far in this collection. A sting operation, a female private detective and a seriel killer walk into a book and....read it to find out.26 Broken Hallelujah by Toni McGee Causey- 2.5 starsa little to slow moving for a short story...ended better than it began, which is rare as many short stories begin well and end with a let down.27 Holding Mercy by Lori Armstrong- 3 starsBefore this evolved into borderline erotice, the first 2/3rds were a very cool story. Since I didn't care about the characters I didn't enjoy them groping etc.28 Vacation Interrupted by Allison Brennan- 3.5 starsA nice twist on an old story...this time the woman is the cop/stalker who won't let her ex go.29 I heard a Romantic story by lee Child- 2 starsAaaauuughhhhhh! First I enjoy lee child and his reacher series, but even there he writes the worst love scenerios I have ever encountered. Why would they include him in this collection.I would recommend this to fans of certain authors in this collection, short story fans....other than that i wouldn't recommend this to those who are not already enjoying short stories or any of the authors...as I said earlier I feel there are better collections out there.
review 2: This review is based only on the following stories.Diamond Drop by Roxanne St. Clare - I like the Bullet Cather series, so was happy to see this short was about them. I thought the premise was an interesting one. I totally didn't see the twist coming at the end, it makes me wonder how Dominic was rewarded.Lockdown by Andrea Kane - I can't imagine a wedding being interrupted like this. What makes it worse was who the bad guy was. Maybe had he found ambition before he wouldn't have been left behind.Without Mercy by Mariah Stewart - I love the whole concept behind The Mercy Foundation, so was happy that this short visited those characters again. I think with current events being what they are, it shouldn't surprise me that stories like this would pop up. I think what is so bad about them is because the person is lost, but so close, it would be hard to live though.Holding Mercy by Lori Armstrong - I love the Mercy stories, she makes me laugh in ways that probably aren't supposed to. And this short does just that as something as simple as a date with Dawson can't go normally.Vacation Interrupted by Allison Brennan - Lucy and Sean have bad luck when trying to escape on vacation, this trip is more of the same, only that they make a conscious choice to help a complete stranger. less
