review 1: This book is on my kindle. My daughter picked this book out of my tbr jar for me to read for April. I really enjoyed this story. It was about a woman who was turning 50. Every year on her birthday something tragic happened so she was dreading her birthday. Her friend told her to go on vacation. Along the way she meets a man and during her vacation lots of strange things happen. I would have given it a 5 star as the story was really good and kept me wanting to know more, however, it had parts of a short story of a children's book about a donkey at the beginning of each chapter where it just did not make any sense to me at all. If you skip all that the book was a great love story.
review 2: I wanted a fun, light read. I got light, but not fun. The plot
... morewas one-dimensional and predictable from the start.Liv is approaching her big 50th birthday. She has survived the loss of her husband and she has won the battle with ovarian cancer, but she is not looking forward to her birthday and would just as soon let it pass her by. Past birthdays have been studded with illness and or tragedy and she's not taking any chances with this one. Her neighbor, Hallie, has a plan. Hallie's mother is coming to Ohio to visit from Florida. Liv can go stay in Hallie's mother's home, regain her strength from her bout with cancer and at the same time, break the birthday curse. Liv meets Jared, an attractive man close to her age on the flight, is immmediately attracted to him, and lo and behold....Jared lives next door to Hallie's mom! From then on, there is no plot, no building tempo, no conflict. It is just a story of how two people fall in love the first day they meet, but they know that they must say good-bye at the end of Liv's visit, and then they find a way to be together after all.Liv annoyed me. Being of "a certain age" myself, I don't think 50 is old, but she acted like a giddy teen-ager. I found her to be more ditzy than funny. The constant "I'm leaving now...Oh, no, I'm not" scenarios were over-done. It was clear that the parting, if it came, would only be for a short time anyway. After all, after just knowing each other for a whole two weeks they knew they were in love! Sigh. less
