review 1: ★★★, maybe ★★★½.It took me 3 attempts to get through this book. First of all, I think the narrator of book 1 made the book more enjoyable. Plus a lot more substantive things happened in the prior book. This second book just had a lot of fillers, so I wasn't as engaged.Another thing, I find the cover of these books to be quite misleading. The girl on the cover is a fearless and confident warrior, that is NOT Mackenzie at all. She doesn't exude the same kind of strength. In fact, that cover makes me thing of Lena.In book 2, with Lena trying to succeed King Atroth, and secure the Silver Palace, the battle to keep the remnants out of the palace was taking all the rebels time and attention. Lena had not convinced all the nobles to embrace her rule, so that was anot... moreher political battle to wage.MacKenzie, the shadow reader, was still coming into her own with her new relationship with Kyol. She left Vegas and came to realm. Her best friend Paige had been kidnapped but finally rescued, and the two girls were reunited. I honestly didn't see anything of value Paige brought to this story except maybe a link to her old life/her human life, but Paige now knows about the Fae & Realm and what MacKenzie had been up to.The ending of this book was really were all the actions was, again reintroducing a love triangle that had been decided in book 1. I may be in the minority, but I like it. I like Kyol and I like Aren, but I do hope the author makes a clean break in the MacKenzie love triangle this time around.
review 2: I enjoyed the first book in this series. I liked the way it ended. I was hoping that this would continue in the same way. I just couldn't get into it.I don't know if it was the fact that it was repetitive of the first book. People want her dead because of what she can do, people are trying to save her from those who want her dead, people with her group are betraying her and want her dead because she is with someone she shouldn't be with.I think I might just be becoming jaded with the whole paranormal genre. They seem to be all the same. I feel I might have done this book a disservice. It probably is a better book than I'm making it out to be but to me its more of the same as everything else. This book its the Fey. In the book before this 1 it was a shifter and the 1 before that was a vampire. Nearly all the same stories just the place and names are different. Maybe some of the dialogue is different too.Anyway I wont be reading the next in the series. 2 is enough.3 stars because it I feel guilty because I didn't really relate less
