review 1: Part 2 of this novel was just as amazing as the first.Jade returns home with her mama an mother in law because her mama is determined to live out her dying days in her home. Jade is still trying to hash out what to do about her husband an the child he conceived with his ex fiancé at his bachelor party an then hid from her all the while she hasn't been able to have kids of their own. Her mother in law thinks shes trying to rekindle an old love with the guy she illegally married as a teen an aborted the baby she was carrying. A touching story as she says goodbye to her mother an is left to put the pieces back together of what shes hoping to do with her future. Now on to the final book 3.
review 2: Jade's supposedly perfect life is coming unraveled around her. He
... morer mother is dying, her father-in-law has just been "outed" as the world's biggest cheater, and her husband turns out to have fathered a child with his ex-fiancee a week before marrying Jade. Trying to work out all this angst is what "Softly and Tenderly" is all about. This book is Christian fiction, but far less "sappy" and unrealistic than almost all other books of the genre I've read. The characters are very real, making very real (very big) mistakes, and the nice thing is that at the end, everything is NOT tied up in a happy-clappy package. My biggest hangup is that the authors did such a good job with characters that I took sides--and I didn't take the side they wanted me to.It turns out that Jade was married before, to a high school sweetheart. It's never really explained why they got divorced; we know it has something to do with Jade aborting his child, but why I don't know. Maybe that was in the first book in the series. In any case, Dustin, her ex, is an amazing guy that any woman could fall in love with. Max, her lying-cheating-pill-popping current husband (can you tell my opinion on the matter?), not so much. Jade choooses to stay with Current Husband over returning to Former Husband, pretty much because "I made a vow." My problem is that she made that same vow to Ex Husband, and my beliefs on marriage make me say, Why is Marriage #2 the one that we're going to devote to? To me, it looks like Marriage #1 was the real one.Overall: A very good read, although the sweet scene-setting in the opening was a little over the top. less
