review 1: I was torn about this book. It had a great story, and the main character was quirky and interesting at times, but completely detestable in other instances. I think all the drug use was just over the top disgusting. I get it. She likes coke and pills and is completely self destructive. I didn't feel it was necessary to pummel the reader with those details over and over and over again. The other characters were more likeable, and I enjoyed the references to San Francisco, but don't know if I'll be returning to this series when/if there is a follow-up.

I almost gave up a few times because Dewitt's drug use increases without introspection to the point that I wondered if it was even going to be addressed outright as a destructive force in her life, or if Gran was simply painting a picture of a quirky, messed-up woman. But it does get addressed and the story comes full circle in a cool way. I'm excited for the third book... less
