review 1: A conquered, lost kingdom is desperate to restore its king to power and resume its place among the other three Seasons. Raasch clearly put a lot of thought into her world-building and its history and culture, and this was well-done, however, it was a bit abstract and confusing and most readers will see the plot twist coming fairly soon. Still, this is a promising new teen fantasy series that will appeal, with its strong heroine. It is not nearly as gory and violent as the Kristin Cashore books but it is a little bloody.
review 2: Really, reeeeeeally enjoyed this. Although I guessed the final twist within the first three pages - sorry Sara - the worldbuiding was wonderful and so was the story. I really love Meira and she grew on me so fast. I also love Theron
... more and Mather and I do hope the "love triangle" thing got solved and doesn't develop again. What else? I really loved the book and the story and the characters and the setting, and I can't wait to see how it'll develop! less
