review 1: I really liked exploring the mother/daughter dynamic in this book. The book takes place during the daughter's senior year in high school and she makes some pretty drastic choices to assert her independence. You are able to empathize easily with the mom - a single mom who has sacrificed so much for her child. But you also understand that the mom is sort of over-projecting her dreams on to her child. The daughter's normal need to explore her identity is complicated by reconnecting with her estranged father and a total infatuation with her first love. The characters were complex. I always love a book that goes back in time to help explain why the characters are the way they are now. I will definitely be checking out more from this author!
review 2: Torn between 2
... moreand 3 stars. I struggled to get into this book but in the end it was not awful. Just void of a plot and strength in the character development. I'm not crazy about books that bounce around in time. However, being a teenager once myself, I could relate to Aubrey and her feelings toward her mother. But as in any lesson in life, honesty is the best policy. Had Tyler and Aubrey just been honest about their intentions for the future, the story would have been a bit different. less

It was a good story. Made me cry a little at the end. Not life changing, but a good read.

Easy summer read with well written character sentiments.
