review 1: This novel kept me interested during the reading of it, but once I finished it, it really wasn’t very good. It suffers from multiple unsympathetic characters and tritely manufactured fairy tale ending. After I finished the first chapters in this novel, I was hoping that this would be a thoughtful portrayal of a struggle with infertility (based on the protagonist’s experience), but instead, it is a bunch of boo-hooing until she is finally able to conceive. I found this so unbelievable and insulting to those who suffer with infertility; there is no magic wand conception in most women’s situations. Instead of finding acceptance for her limitations and making meaning in her life as it is, the readers are left with a garbage “everything will work out if you wish hard en... moreough” ending.
review 2: Great little story that combines the scenery of Italy, fiesty little old ladies, cookies, and love. The Secret League of Widowed Darners main goal in life is to work behind the scenes to create happy endings for those they can sense are suffering from a broken heart. Although I truly didn't care what happened either way to the main characters, the widows made me want to read more just to see what would happen to their league instead! less

A very light fast read. 3 stars because I knew what was going to happen before it did.
