review 1: This beautifully written book is great for older children (4th grade at the youngest), to learn about loss and love. After sweet Cally's mother dies, she stop speaking after her father cannot handle her constantly talking about her mother. In time Cally's mother begins to appear wherever a dog, she names Homeless, is. As she tries to find her way in life without her mother, moving, her father's depression, Cally finds stability in Homeless. Homeless helps bring her out of her shell and she befriends the boy downstairs with disabilities himself. The two find hope and happiness in each other. This is a marvelous book, with a realistic touch to it. There is much to learn from Cally and her life that anyone can carry on into their own lives. Children will learn about love, los... mores, finding hope, the importance of family and friends, about those who have disabilities, and much more. A great read for you and your children, or to use in school.
review 2: This book is about Cally, her friend Sam, and a dog called Homeless. Cally's mom died and her dad is struggling with that as well as selling their house. Cally's brother, Luke, is a typical older brother. Cally decides not to talk and learns a lot about herself from being silent and from Homeless. It has some drama (not much), humor, and sadness all together which makes it a great book. I cried at the end. less
