review 1: A lot of people like this book and unfortunately I can't say the same. For me to enjoy a story, I need to like the characters and agree with their actions (or understand why they act the way they did). The story need to be engaging. Sadly I can't say I like the heroine nor do I truly like the hero. I found the heroine is judgemental and accused the hero to beware the damage of the reputation should he be seen with his mistress but on the other hand has no guilt or care at all how she go on doing her list. On one hand the readers were told she is a prudent character but on the other hand she recklessly attend the tavern, forget where and what she is doing when she is in the arms of hero. Considering how strict the society back then, it would be disastrous to her family and ... moreher sister's engagement to the duke. I found her actions selfish instead of trying to get a taste of adventure before resigning to spinsterhood. She is fully aware that she hasn't expected the hero to fall in love with her but yet after sleeping together and refused to accept his proposal because she hope it was a romantic offer and the offer is out of love seem very unrealistic. For a character who should expect less seem to be constantly demanding for more doesn't fit how I imagine a primish person would be. Her high expectation of the hero to love her throughout the story contradict her understanding of how she wouldn't be able to attract the hero with her look. Overall I am disappointed with the heroine and hence can't enjoy the story that much. I might rate it lower if I haven't been able to finish the book.
review 2: People seem to have a problem with how insecure Callie was. Her self-hating thoughts weren't an issue for me. It was when she voiced them. When she kept professing her love to him... *Major cringing in those parts*Other than that, I loved it. I couldn't put it down. It was funny and sweet. And - holy crap - their chemistry was... Just amazing! My first Sarah Maclean book, but definitely not my last. less
