The Ivy Years
review 1: Both main characters are hiding pretty big secrets in their lives. Scarlet changed her name when she went to college to escape the media circus her life has become since her father was charged with sexual assault on a minor. The hero, Bridger has become responsible for his little sister and has been hiding her in his dorm room. They are attracted to each other right away but have issues to work through to find their HEA. I love that this author incorporates real problems in a realistic way. She amps up the tension and conflict, but I never feel manipulated by the story.
review 2: In making her escape to Harkness, Scarlett hopes to leave her family situation behind. Her father has been accused of molesting underage boys, the media camps on her lawn, and she
... mores been made a pariah in her New Hampshire town. Bridger got his own bundle of family woes. Hiding his 8 year old sister Lucy in his dorm room, he’s giving her the best he can, giving up hockey and time with his friends, as the mother cooks as well as takes drugs in their former home. Scarlett and Bridger meet in class and begin an instant friendship. Hiding their family dramas from each other, they become close, as close as people telling lies to the other can be. I adored both characters and their interaction together. This author does an amazing job keeping their emotions and thoughts age appropriate without diving into pointless angst. These two have real issues to deal with, life changing issues, but together then can get away from it all for awhile.Secrets slowly pour out like they always do. Scarlett finds out about Lucy and Bridger finds out about Scarlett’s parents and their lawyers who are making Scarlett’s life miserable. Mistakes are made and the two take a step back when it comes to too much pride and inability to trust. But eventually everything comes to a head, all is revealed, lives are reshaped forever, but in the aftermath Scarlett and Bridger have a chance to make their relationship work.My second book by this author and a second book I loved to pieces. less
