I want to go back for you.”
GUYS.
GUYZZZZZ.
There’s this, like, weird ache happening in my chest? And my eyes are like…. dripping and wet? AND HELP SOMEONE HELP I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGGGGSSS!!
NORA SAKAVIC WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME, YOU MONSTER?!
I just sent my brain to her room for not making me read this sooner.
I know I didn’t seem too ecstatic in my review for book 1, but HOLY HELL if I knew what was to come after book 2, I’d gladly rewind and pick this up the SECOND I heard about this series. It took until book 2/3 for me to understand what the hype was all about, but the build up to all that happens in The King’s Men (book 3) IS. SO. WORTH. IT. The feelings this book pulled from me..wow. I haven’t felt this obsessed with characters since I’ve read The Raven Cycle.
“This,” Neil flicked his finger to indicate the two of them, “isn’t worthless.”“There is no ‘this’. This is nothing.”
“And I am nothing,” Neil prompted. When Andrew gestured confirmation, Neil said, “And as you’ve always said, you want nothing.”
I know the blurb makes this sort of sound like a sports YA novel, but don’t be fooled. IT IS NOT. It is so so soooo much more.
In summary the All For The Game Series is about:
A group of college students who have been dealt the absolute shittiest cards in life, who have been put together to play a sport that serves as an escape for some but a prison for others, who don’t know how or care to get along, but decide to fight and band together and learn that family isn’t always what you’re born into, but can be who you choose. It’s about recovery, and struggles, and not forgetting your past but learning to deal with it and finding out that sometimes, leaning on the ones around you can make it just a little bit easier to get through the day and sometimes, love comes unexpectedly.
But mostly, it’s about a lost boy named Neil who only knows how to run, but finds people who give him so many reasons to stay.
“I’ve never belonged anywhere or had the right to call anything my own. But Coach gave me keys to the court, and you told me to stay. You gave me a key and called it home.”It was sexy and surprisingly romantic and scary and brutal and funny and touching and not at all what I expected and just..just..EVERYTHING.
“Yes or no?”“It’s always yes with you,” Neil said.
