Taskill Witches
review 1: Maisie Taskill is on the run. Her guardian, Cyrus, craves her unusual powers and he expects to keep controlling the young witch and commanding her to his will. But Maisie found out about his intentions and is determined to escape. His only option, however, lies within the Libertas, and his captain. Roderick Cameron is a man of highly irregular activities, but he is her only hope. And, to get a place aboard the ship and her chance to reach Scotland, Maisie will offer him her most prized possession. Her virginity.Part of what makes this book interesting lies in the mixture of romance and supernatural, with Maisie’s witchcraft being a crucial element of the story – but only part of it. Most of the narrative is focused on the romance between Maisie and Roderick, but her ma... moregic and its consequences are always present. That makes the story a lot more enthralling, both because of the tension and mystery it creates and because the context becomes a lot bigger.Romance is the center, and so, the context is developed gradually, almost as a complement to the main events. However, this creates a mysterious aura to the story, and that is quite pleasant. Also, Maisie’s personal story, before her escape, has many interesting moments, with the family history being particularly captivating. Most of the story is placed during the travel to Scotland, which implies a long period of time in the same space. As a consequence, those first chapters dedicated to the journey by sea are a little less intense than the rest, with less action and a narrative more focused on sensuality. Those moments are, however - and as is the rest of the book – very well written, and so, even when the rest of the world disappears for the story, there is still plenty to enjoy in this read.As for the romance itself, guessing how the story will end for Maisie and Roderick is not exactly hard. There is, however, a good fusion of sensuality and emotion, and an empathy that grows with each touching moment. That is also a part of what makes things interesting.Well written, with strong characters and an enthralling story, this is, overall, a very entertaining book. Sometimes touching, sometimes intriguing, it’s both a good romance and a very good read.
review 2: CONTAIN SPOILERS! I won this copy of THE JEZEBEL by the amazing author SASKIA WALKER! where to begin; EROTIC! I gave 5 stars since the first two chapters, I fell in love with the characters of Maisie and Roderick, the era that the story is set in and in particular, the style of writing used. This pages of this book are literally weaved with magic and enchantment. I have been hooked from the start. I think Saskia Walker did a fantastic job by withoding the full extent of Cyrus Lafayette's true intention for offering Maisie Taskill sanctuary and education. Cyrus was a cold hearted man with no convictions or morals, he groomed this innocent little witch by means of instilling fear into her; her greatest fear of suffering the same fate her mother tragically endured at the hands of god fearing folk who did not understand their magical talents.Maisie Taskill is chosen by her master and protector purely for his own selfish needs; to wreck vengeance and havoc upon those who disrepute him and to empower himself by stealing her virginity when she is fully flourished into womanhood. Whilst Roderick and Cyrus both develop a strong will to own Maisie their reasons and means of doing so are quite the opposite. Both develop obsessions for her but to her master and benefactor it is un-requited and un-desired, she has always seen him as a father figure and scholar, nothing more. With Roderick is is different for she feels the equal desire and obsession to match him. Aside from Maisie and Roderick, Clyde was a personal favourite character, with his love of rum, toothy grin and respect from fellow seamen, I was greatly relieved when he showed redemption for mis-treating 'the jezebel' as I really felt for Maisey when all the men aboard the Libertas turned on her. I hated Cyrus Lafayette for mistreating his ward, he cruelly misused her precious gift and innocence to ascertain her loyalty in future years. I was so relieved when he was punished for all his wrongdoings! Completely deserved.AMAZING BOOK!x less
