review 1: I've previously read and enjoyed The Most Beautiful Thing by this author so was happy when I managed to get the kindle eBook of this one when it was free. Unfortunately Small Kindnesses didn't grab me in the same way, it's a pleasant enough read that you don't need to think about too much or have to concentrate on but as the story progresses it's obvious how it will end. I found myself reading the last third of the book just so I could finish it and move onto my next read and not because I was in a hurry to find out what would happen to the characters.
review 2: Small Kindness is a slow moving but charming story about a man moving forward after the death of his beloved wife. He thought he knew her well until a chance discovery opens the door to a sad past that
... more he was never aware of. His quest to find out things he is not sure he wants to know is made interesting by the musings in his head and the little side stories about things he reads and imagines. I smiled often while reading. The writing is beautiful and you come to love Leonard very early in the book. The pace is slow to a sad ending to the story of the wife Rose and the glimmer of a new and hopeful life ahead for Leonard. This is a book for a rainy day. less
