review 1: Let me preface this review by saying that I knew I would not enjoy this book when I picked it up from the library. However, I decided to give it a read to have a deeper insight into how the ideology of the right is changing with the new found political climate.I began reading this book and within the introduction, Hannity reminisces about the Reagan era of conservatism, as many other Republicans are at this time. However, every piece of far right propaganda produced by this book go directly AGAINST Reagan's moderate viewpoints and policies. Through and through, this piece of "literature" is a mass produced (and unfortunately, consumed) piece of modern propaganda. There is no doubt that Hannity knows his audience, and wants to appeal to them with his right wing nut ideology... more and this book was not for me, but I did not expect the complete lack of backing evidence. Instead, you as a reader will find biased rhetoric and at one point, Hannity even cites his own employer as some kind of "non-biased" news source.Frankly it was laughable to read the McCarthy-esque chapter regarding members of President Obama's administration. Hannity calls each member a "Czar" of some sort, asserting that they have some kind of undeniable power over each and every citizen. The Office of Science and Technology was not spared, as Hannity denied scientific fact in defense of his own views about the environment and what kind of policies should be in place to protect it. For someone who often asserts that the president it messing up the country for the next generation, he doesn't seem to want there to be a healthy planet for that generation to live on. Although this may not be a very important issue to Americans at this point, let me bring up another example of a "czar" in this administration, Kevin Jennings, the founder of GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network). Of course no one would expect any support for Jennings in this book, but Hannity goes as far in this section as to say that there should be no base sexual education for students, and that some sort of "homosexual agenda" is being pushed upon children. Most of these "Czars" are not even in direct relations with the president, but are rather just used as an outlet for Hannity's uncontrollable red rage. The title of chapter 3 is "Obama the Socialist," now any normal American can see that our President is not in fact, practicing socialism. In this chapter Hannity cites sources such as Republican power house, The Heritage Foundation. Hannity discredits himself immensely by using BLATANTLY biased and partisan sources, and assuming no one would look beyond his ridiculous rhetoric and hairline. The gross misunderstanding of the economy by Hannity is appalling, especially because this man is employed to deliver news to impressionable Americans. His yellow journalism and misstated job numbers only further prove that this is not a book to take for fact, but rather maybe for an easy and funny read. No one is unfamiliar with the Islamaphobia displayed on Fox News. On multiple occasions Hannity has spoken with anti-Islam group leaders and adamantly agreed with their extreme viewpoints. Even more alarming, Hannity accuses the president of almost being a terrorist sympathizer. It seems that this half-wit cannot distinguish between Muslims and Terrorists when he states in relation to 9/11 that there has "clearly been a Muslim problem" in accordance with many of is colleagues on Fox News.It is worthless to even bring up Hannity's "God-fearing" social policy as he is only regurgitating the rhetoric of Republican congressmen. He degrades single working mothers and the unemployed in a typical conservative-man fashion. The rhetoric at this point is getting weak, and it is difficult to read on. Throughout this book it seems that Hannity is preaching that the Republican party needs some kind of change, however in the last section of his book he urges men and women of the party to "stick to their guns" and not budge. Men like Hannity are the reason government can't work in this day and age. By encouraging his FALSE and DESPICABLE ideology, the partisan climate will not come anywhere closer to dissolving. Conservatives like Hannity need to reevaluate the actions of their party, and realize that the change needs to come from within, and NOT from the exterior.
review 2: For those of us that were actually paying attention during this last election cycle...there really is not anything new in this book. For those individuals that made their decision based soley on emotion (and are now suffering from buyers remorse), but maintain an open mind; you may learn something from the multitude of documented facts about the idiologies and philosophies of our current president. I will give Hannity props for actually proposing solutions to many of our problems which so many pundits on either side of the isle never seem to come up with. In general, I found this book somewhat depressing in that you really can see how much worse things can get before they get better. I really only want to say two things: 1. Mr. President...I live within my means and I expect my government and the rest of the country to do the same. 2. Please stop punishing me for working my butt off by taxing me to death. less
