review 1: Excellent book! Russell has a terrific feel for the language of the period as well as the social norms. The book is pretty episodic and such books tend to be, but the action flows along nicely. Some scenes, such as a lengthy golf game, made me wonder if Mr. Russell is a golf player himself, and that bias led to a scene that was perhaps a bit longer than it needed to be. But that's a small quibble. Over all I thought this was a great book. Poor Hayden cannot catch a break!
