review 1: This was a nice gap-filler between Incryptid novels and a more personal introduction to the character of Arthur (Artie), who we haven't previously seen as a POV character (iirc), but the 'twist' at the end of the story feels so sudden (and possibly unearned) that I'm not sure if I'm supposed to take it at face value or not, which makes it a slightly less satisfying read than it might otherwise have been. It's always a 50/50 if McGuire is playing straight with you, or it's the wind up to ripping your heart out.
review 2: This is a sweet story and it really is making me excited for a cuckoo centered book (especially after reading Stingers and Strangers...what the HECK is Frances Brown and what genetic variable did she throw into the Price family formula). Sarah
... moreseems to be recovering and Artie's reaction to getting to hear from her is adorable. But I'm beginning to wonder what Mcguire has planned for Sarah, and if that has anything to do with her biological parents or at the very least a showdown with a psychotic version of her species. Either way, this was a nice story. less
