review 1: It took me two days to read these books! I could not not put them down. I had to know what was going to happen next. I have been reading Selena now for a couple of years and I don't know why it took me so long to get to this one. I am soooo happy that I did. It caught me from the first couple of pages and just couldn't stop til I finished all three books. I was rooting for Leah and Erica to make it through. I did have my suspicions about what was going on and what was happening, and it was such a relief when I found out I was right. Amazing Read- Thank you Selena!!
review 2: 4.5 out of 5. OMG, and again I say OMG. This is one of those trilogies what will grab on and never let go. It is a story that, according to the author, is now being revised and re-writte
... moren for the third time, this time to be set in the context of the sexual repression of the 50's as well as illustrating the power of society as well as the place held in public awareness and social power by the Catholic Church. The author makes no apologies for this tale, one that chronicles the journey of two teenage girls who are discovering not only themselves and their own sexuality, but are introduced to the "wonders" of pictoral sex by viewing the photographic works of Mr. Nolan, the father of one of the girls, all of which is kept secretly "under Mr. Nolan's bed." Yet one of the girls has the key, and while away from their home, the one girl introduces the other to the mysteries of sex in its many forms so that their personal barriers, carefully constructed by parent and church and parochial educators are slowly dismantled. Yet the story is so much deeper, and as the reader works through the tale, there is one shock after another, one mess that goes deeper and gets messier by the page. It's a trilogy that boggles the mind before it's all over. Today's reader may not be as affected by church scandal as was the case 60 years ago. As one who was in high school during the 50's, it was not difficult to put myself in the place of these girls as they became disillusioned by the goings-on behind the scenes, the sense of betrayal they each experienced, as well as almost gasping for breath as each new dark secret is revealed, most of which are rooted in the dark perversion of one man's evil. And evil it is, so much so that by the end I was almost tempted to go take a physical shower. Yet it is a wonderful piece of writing by an author who erotic romance fiction lovers are familiar with. These are not short and sweet novellas; they are each full-length novels that don't back away from anything, and while there may be readers who will be deeply offended by some of the garbage that is perpetrated by religious professionals who are supposed to be far from such action and attitude, it is a story that tells a tale rooted in historical reality. I don't think a serious reader should miss this, and I commend Ms Kitt for having the gumption to write it. Hold on to your hats, folks. This is a doozy. less
