review 1: Those of you who read "Through Rushing Water" know my passion for Native American rights. Jesus told us to love one another. Loving wisely must be rooted in an understanding of the past. "Under A Blackberry Moon" does an excellent job showing life with the Chippewa in Michigan, 1868. The romance of Moon Song and Skypilot grows through tragedy and heartache. Moon Song seemed childlike and ignorant in the white world, yet in the wilds of the Upper Peninsula, she's the expert who keeps Skypilot and Isabella alive. Excellent!
review 2: I think this was my favourite of the 'Michigan Northwoods' series. I really enjoyed getting to know Moon Song and Skypilot better through the experiences they had in trying to get Moon Song back to her people.I especially loved the
... moredetails that were given of the Chippewa tribes that Moon Song and Skypilot were a part of. It is likely (though unconfirmed) that I have a Cherokee great-great-great (not sure how many 'greats') grandmother. I wish I knew more about her. For some reason, and perhaps it is because of her, I have a great love and respect for the Native peoples. Reading this series has made me a DEFINITE Serena B. Miller fan, and I can't wait to figure out which book of hers I'll read next! less
