review 1: Way too much gratuitous language and gore - who talks like this? Having content literally on every page doesn’t lend itself to enjoying a book. Further, the character development in the beginning of the book is painfully way too slow; it does however, eventually pick up. Only Mia has any real depth to speak of, the rest are cardboard people. I didn’t connect with the main character at all; who along with the other characters are spoiled, boring, super rich, political kids. During their escape, in the middle of Mia’s best friends dying with blood all around them; somehow, she finds it acceptable to make out with a complete stranger… I was very disappointed after reading the write up - IMO a waste of a good cover. The book is a relevant issue in light o... moref the Ebola disease going on right now. Oh but wait...there is a cliffhanger at the end…. Blood, blood and more blood – all forms of blood occur throughout book (coughing blood, bleeding it, seeping blood, vomiting blood, wheezing bloody bubbles…; blood on the floor, on the walls, on a handkerchief, on a shirt, on a face, on a bed…; dripping blood, splattered blood, coagulating blood, spraying blood, stained blood, spurting blood…wow)
review 2: I was pleasantly surprised with this story because I really wasn’t sure what to expect based upon the title and the beginning of the book. The story starts off with Mia sharing her story of falling down the well when she was a small which really seemed odd since the plot then shifts to a party. Unfortunately, the opening party scene is full of drinking and teens hooking up since most of these teens lived at the boarding school. The next day, the plot actually began when Mia realizes that something is seriously wrong when the warning alarm rings but only for the school, not the entire town. After speaking with her father who tells her to run in order to make everyone safe, Mia’s world dissolves into pure insanity. Regrettably, it appears that the only reason for the partying scene would be to entice teen readers but it actually limits the audience by making it too mature for younger teens. The plot itself once the group of teens begin to attempt to get away. Overall this was an enjoyable book and I look forward to the sequel. less
