review 1: For the love of french fries, I could not remember who recommended this book on my Facebook feeds. Anyway, I was enticed, and so I looked it up on Amazon. Luckily, it was under Kindle Unlimited.I like how this author linked the vampires and sunwalkers to the Atlanteans. The story was crafted and executed well, but I didn't like the love triangle interjected in the story. Otherwise, I enjoyed listening to it at work. The cliffhanger encouraged me to follow the next installment.
review 2: It's been over a year since I read this book for the first time, I haven't read it since. Simply put; I didn't like it. My main reason: the characters were ridiculous. With Morgan; the kick-ass heroine. There was absolutely nothing kick-ass about her. Sure it was reiterated
... more(every single chapter, in fact) but why did she make such simple mistakes on every hunt when she says she has years of experience. Outside of repetition, there was nothing that prompted me to stop and think "yeah this chick is bad-ass." And I'm sure I'm not the only one who got tired of hearing about this chick's sexual attraction to every single guy she came across. It got to the point of okay, this guy is thigh clenchingly gorgeous. Who cares?Speaking of which, the geeky sidekick ( can't remember what his name is) he was just all kinds of annoying. His "sexiness" was too forced and I believe there were a few times the heroine had come home to find him sitting in the dark like a weirdo. Seriously! What's appealing about that? It's actually pretty creepy, if you really wanna be technical. After the second time, his ass would've been handed to him. Didn't we get enough stalker tendencies in Twilight?Which brings us to Jack, the dreamy thigh clenchingly sexaaaaaay sunwalker (who obviously isn't too dreamy because I can't even remember his description). He was rather brooding and, frankly, a complete d-bag to Morgan a majority of the time they spend together, you know, like Edward from Twilight. (!Newsflash! Shéa MacLeod not all vampires have to be like that) then all of a sudden Boom! there in love with each other. However, Jack wasn't what bugged me the most about this piece of work. This is my opinion, and I could be wrong, but I believe the author is trying to compensate for something (don't shoot me). How I came to that conclusion? The whole "even though 29 is not that old" rant in chapter one. Sounds a little like self reassurance to me. Then I saw a picture of Shea MacLeod. Is it a coincidence Morgan and the author both have red hair and 'luscious curves'? (However, the latter's aren't so luscious). Isn't that why, through Morgan, she describes skinny woman as being Twizzlers or swizzle sticks (whatever it was)? Ooo somebody's bitter!Honestly, all authors should have a connection to their characters, both protagonist and antagonist, but not to the point where you mold this character to fit what you wish you could be then slap your features on the said character to make it seem more real. All in all, the entire lot were underdeveloped, contrived and boring. I stopped reading 25% through. So glad it was free (I can see why). less
