Lil and Boris
review 1: It's quite fun, what with the clever cat stuff. She's a lady cop with good instincts, aided by a wild puddy tat, Boris, with better...It's very lightweight of course, but don't be put off if that's the way you like it. Boris is quite good value but of course with not much to say except the odd mreow, growl, scratch, etc.. well, there are limits.A fair first book, not sure there's a series in it.
review 2: This was an Amazon freebie of the day a while back and it was so delightful I've started the second. Bonus, I discovered I can borrow the other three free with Prime.Crazy, VA population 300. Home of the feuding Littlepages and Ellers the two founding families of the town. The families have feuded since time immortal and never the twain shall meet. Well a
... morelmost never because on the first page we meet Lil Littlepage Eller, product of the one and only joining of the clans and the near six foot sheriff of Crazy. The Littlepages and Ellers have barely acknowledge Lil's existence from birth, however, when a Littlepage cousin is murdered Lil is front and center trying to solve the crime with the help of Boris the feral cat that befriends her and becomes first her protector and then her "deputy".This could have become silly and sappy but Sharron Hill, who obviously has had experience with cats, makes this charmingly readable. Lil being who she is in the town she patrols a loner and once Boris wheedles his way into her heart she has a companion to bounce ideas off of and calm her sprits during stressful dealings. The fact that Boris is a little bit of a furry lie detector also help with her job.The characters develop nicely, the cat develops nicely, the murder mystery is more than decent and unusual in how it plays out, and as you read you come the conclusion Crazy is apply named. less
