Life in Icicle Falls
review 1: Great read from a great author. This time, she transports the reader to the fictional yet believable Icicle Falls. Each character brings a little something to the table that we all can relate to, from love, to loss, to the promise and hope that is Christmas. Here we enjoy a stay at the Lodge on Holly Road, run by its proprietor Olivia Wallace, a widowed mother of two adult sons. Olivia really goes out of her way to make her guests feel welcome and feeds them well too (be sure and check out Olivia's recipes at the end of the book!). We also meet the Claussens, all on their first Christmas since their mother passed away. Brooke Claussen thinks this trip will help her father James, a holiday Santa, get his Christmas spirit back. Perhaps he will...Then we have single mo... morem Missy Monroe, who's trying to give her kids a wonderland Christmas on her shoestring hairdresser's budget. Along for the ride is also John Truman, with great expectations for his special proposal to his girlfriend over the holiday. We get to take an intimate peek into the lives of these and more, until we feel we've known them for much longer than just a holiday season. A truly charming and romantic work, with just the right amount of sizzle and spark.
review 2: Great Christmas read! The characters in this Holiday novel are so real, you'd swear you know them. The author, Sheila Roberts is known for her quick wit and down to earth stories. Even though they are somewhat predictable, they are never boring, and The Lodge on Holly Road is no exception. The imagery is beautiful. Icicle Falls reminds me of my little town- where nothing and everything can happen at the same time. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this book isn't picked up by Hallmark, Lifetime or any of the networks - great Holiday story. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes stories with happy endings- but remember, a happy ending doesn't mean smooth sailing- there are plenty of disappointments, sadness, loneliness, etc in most any life, and these characters are no different- that's what makes them so real. less
