My Son's Wife
review 1: From the very first page, this book captured my attention. The story line was nothing I expected. At the start we see Rena attempting to break free from a love triangle but who would expect the triangle to include two members of the same family-one male and one female. Although a central theme of the book is faith/religion the book doesn't come across as preachy. Each of the characters struggle with not just knowing the scriptures but actually living it. Shelia Lipsey crafts a great story of deception, homosexuality, molestation, faith, love, and forgiveness. As read the book, there were characters like Frankie and her mother, Audrey that I just wanted to shake and bring them to their senses. Others I found myself rooted for hoping they would successfully navigate the tum... moreultuous roads of relationship. I grieved for the loss of the innocence of a little girl, whose mother failed her. I would have liked more from the ending of the story but I did like that Ms Lipsey didn't try to creative a pretty-bow-wrapped ending, which I often is unrealistic in many books I read.
review 2: Shelia Lipsey is with out a doubt a great writer. The story she tells is one you can relate to. It’s not to over the top with preaching, and not the typical urban Christian novel. Her detail for writing is of expertise. She has the passion in My Son’s Wife. Meeting Frankie and Rena was like meeting someone you knew. Not only do you know someone like them, you can understand and feel their struggle. I read this story so easily. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Will the secrets get out? How can a woman cope with having a same sex lover and turn around and marry her brother? Can you see the drama, the secrets, and the betrayal? I highly recommend My Son’s Wife, not only does Lipsey teach the word of God in this urban tale, she allows us to walk in her characters shoes. You will know more about your self when you are done reading this story.Tamika NewhouseAAMBC Reviewer less
