review 1: When I first read reviews for this book, quite a few said this was a light hearted story for a summer read. After reading it, I can't say it was always light hearted. I can say, however, that it was a beautiful story. There were moments when I cried but there were also moments of laughter. At the end of the book, I felt my heart soar and found a smile on my face. What else could you hope for out of a book?
review 2: I liked the characters and their motivations. I even liked that some of the motivations were just hinted at. A beautiful book. This book handled prejudice in a beautiful way by not really handling it directly but treating people as people no matter their color. I think it struck me because the book I read previously treated it very differently. ... more I do not think violence changes how a person looks at another. A contextual element that may not strike another reader enhanced the book for me. less
