review 1: I had not read a book by this author before. I really liked the story and I thought the diaglogue was wonderful. The witty back and forth between the main characters was great and seemed to be in keeping with the time period- I definitely want to read more. I downgraded it a little because the first part of the book didn't have much action- mostly just talking although the talking, as mentioned previously, kept me interested. An interesting and different approach to the tried and true formula for period romances!
review 2: I was lucky enough to have the author offer to send me a copy of this after I entered the FirstReads giveaway and didn't win. I enjoyed this romance a lot. There was a higher level of proficicency with language than you get with a lot of ... morebooks in the same genre, and I really enjoyed the two lead characters, and a couple of the supporting ones were quite memorable. I only wish that there had been more romantic scenes leading up to the expected declaration of love at the end! less
