review 1: Favorite quotes:I wanted to stab myself in the face with the broken shards of my dignity. “You’re not going to kill me because I was the interruptus to your coitus.” There should be some sort of support group for people who disliked me. Ingrid wouldn’t be leading the meetings, but she’d still sit in a metal folding chair with her Styrofoam coffee cup and say, “Hello, my name is Ingrid, and I hate Secret.” Most people, when faced with death, reach the level of acceptance and eventually yield. I got as far as denial and sort of stuck there. It made killing me pretty frustrating.
review 2: Secret decided after the events of the previous book that some 'me' time was in order and A Bloody Good Secret starts off with her taking time off to visit her gra
... morendmother. Unfortunately for Secret, the men in her life have decided that 3 months is long enough and band together to bring her home. Kidnapping is possibly the word used here.Secret has had awhile to think of the Councils request for her to hunt down her old warden Holden Chancery and bring him to justice. She just can't bring herself to believe he has gone rogue and starts to suspect there is more to it when he visits her in her dreams. On top of this, she's still dealing with the unusual situation of being soul bonded to the werewolf king, Lucas and his 2nd in command, Desmond. Sig, the tribunal leader himself has come to get her from her 'holiday' and wants her to find evidence of Holdens innocence. Leaving her with vague clues and not much else, she begins an investigation to save Holden from his fate at her hands. Death. This second instalment answered a lot of questions I had in the first book but they've left me with a lot more. As you get into the guts of the story - there are places where you ask yourself what happened because unless you blinked a hundred times and missed it there seemed to be a few holes. The end ties up nicely and I enjoyed the struggles Secret endured to prove her friends innocence. She goes through a fair amount when characters such as Nolan show up, the human boy she seems to have taken under her wing, Brigit - her ward, Noriko - the enemys human servant and Kellen, Lucas' sister. I think the essence of a good novel for me is the ability of the author to answer some questions, raise other questions, draw you in, annoy you, make you laugh at the antics of the characters, experience heartbreak and grief, get angry and rage at what happened and do all the things that run the full gauntlet of human emotion. Although not all there, for me this book makes it a journey I want to take with Secret McQueen and her world. And for me, that's weird. less
