review 1: These books are gentle and undemanding. They're all quite similar - two amateur sleuths (who get described as old biddies but I don't think they are actually that old), who seem strangely reluctant to share their observations with the police. Lightweight story with some serious issues lurking under the surface (the commercial pressure which a chain might put on an independent pub landlord, some issues surrounding care in the community). I wasn't sure about the summary at the end, telling you what is going to happen to the characters who are being written out of the series. Good on the incidental comments on society in such a place as Fethering (I imagine much of Simon Brett's readership must come from such places, and wonder if they recognise themsel... moreves!)
review 2: Poisoning in the Pub by Simon Brett5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed this book and love this series, January 19, 2014 This review is from: Poisoning in the Pub "Poisoning in the Pub"The Crown and Anchor is the well established pub owned and managed by Ted Crisp. Ted has been a good friend of both Jude and Carole. They are the middle aged residents of Fethering and local sleuths as well. Carole and Jude are off to have lunch at their local pub and what a lunch it turns out to be. Scallops are tops on the menu and highly recommended by the bar manager, Zosia. The scallops were just delivered this morning and prepared by Ted's new chef. What happens next turns the Crown and Anchor upside down and nearly ruins Ted's thriving business. It's up to Jude and Carole to get to the bottom of Ted's dilemma.I am so comfortable reading this series. Carole and Jude have a believable relationship and all the aspects of the pub with Ted add to the build up in the story. less

Rather boring book really. The main character hasn't change or grown as a person and she needs to.

Really enjoyed this little mystery story. Bonus with it being read by the author.
