review 1: I started this book because I read a piece about Chelsea-United penalty incident which was quite interesting. (around 2-3 pages)The rest of the book is incredibly boring. They keep saying the same things over and over again. What did they think, they were writing a textbook to help the reader memorize it?And the statistical treatment isn't that much. I would have been happier if a more rigorous statistical analysis was done. Most of the analyses that come out of the stats should be taken with a pinch of salt (which is also pointed out by the authors themselves). Its more of an opinion book masquerading itself as a statistical analysis of football and completely drunk on the book 'Moneyball'. Please we came to read about football.
review 2: After reading this bo
... moreok, it becomes easier to imagine how football matches are played off the field as much as they're played on it. Kuper provides fascinating insight into the world of football that gets played behind the doors. Surprising details about training methods, business plans and philosophies of some big clubs as well as some small ones sums up a very interesting read.Fascinating though it might be, it is also possible that you'll be bored by so much data. Kuper uses lots of data and perhaps slightly dubious methods to reiterate the same few points through out the book. less
