review 1: Zizek always makes interesting points, maybe not correct, but interesting. Well worth reading to see the world through the looking glass, in a sense. This particular book is outdated now and while the material conditions of the global economy (or global inequality) have not gotten terribly better since 2009, Zizek's prognostications ring hollow almost five years later. Communism is no closer today to reasurecting itself in a twenty first century form than it was during the height of the financial crisis. There is the possibility that Zizek could be right in the future, especially regarding the stratification of political parties into respectable technocratic ones and demagogic populist ones. review 2: Great read if you want a fairly comprehensive overview of our hypocritical modern political condition. Today America practices corporate socialism with one hand and authoritarian capitalism with the other. Zizek argues that neither of their ideologies will work, and maybe its time to reconsider a more communist approach. This book came out right after the recession but it still has a lot relevant discourse to consider right now. less

I enjoyed this. I thought Zizek made a very cogent analysis.
